York International Fined $10 Million for U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Violations

briberyYork International agreed to pay $10 million to the U.S. government on Monday to resolve allegations that some of its employees paid bribes to Iraqi officials.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) alleged that York employees paid $675,000 to the prewar Iraqi government in exchange for contracts to supply air conditioning devices to government buildings.

The DOJ also accused York of bribing officials in Bahrain, Egypt, India, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates over six years starting in 1999.

In addition to the financial penalty, the agreement also states “York admits, accepts and acknowledges that it is responsible for the acts of its officers, employees and its wholly owned subsidiaries, YAZR and FZE.”
